About COSMOS

The California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) at UC Santa Cruz is a rigorous, four-week residential program for talented and motivated high school students. COSMOS students enroll in short courses that are designed to introduce students to subjects not traditionally offered in high school. Courses will be offered in Biology, Robotics, Computer Science, Physics, Math, Animal Behavior and more.

Our Mission

The California State Legislature established COSMOS in 1998 with a mission to motivate the most creative minds of the new generation of prospective scientists, engineers, and mathematicians so that they may actively participate in the business and higher educational sectors of the State of California.

Our Instructors

UCSC COSMOS started in the year 2000. COSMOS instructors are active researchers/educators from various divisions throughout the UCSC campus. They share a strong desire to nurture the next-generation STEM leaders by enhancing the educational experience of younger students.

Advisory Board

The statewide advisory board is composed of scientific and technological leaders in higher education and industry to guide the California State Summer School in Mathematics and Science. Representatives to the board include faculty of the University of California and public and private universities, as well as CEOs from the corporate sector.
